Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror

Congrats to Christopher K. Miller for receiving an honorable mention in the 21st annual Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror for his story, “A Hawk Circling the Wind”.  The tale appeared in the premier issue of Nossa Morte in November of 2007.

November Issue

Up to 4 accepted stories now for the next installment.  A couple left to go, unless we decide to open it up to a few more, seeing as how it is our 1-year anniversary issue and all.

And August is looking like a record month for submissions received.  Thanks everyone!  Keep them coming.

Live Journal

Response times

We’re caught up and back on our usual trends on the submissions front.  Now down to around a 2-3 week response time.

And we’re very excited about the upcoming November issue.  The lineup looks amazing based on the 3 stories we’ve accepted so far — very dark, disturbing fiction written by some highly skilled storytellers.

Some big news on the horizon…

 

As our 1-year anniversary approaches, we have some significant plans in mind for the magazine.  First, we are considering incorporating some small ads into the website.  We promise, though, that they would not be overly intrusive or distracting from the site you have come to know so well.  We certainly don’t want them to be a burden on the reader, and we won’t let that happen.  But it will (and here’s the good part) allow us to raise our pay rates to more closely mirror some of the larger magazines.  We have some big goals for this magazine, and being able to pay more for fiction will help get us there.  More on that in the near future.

Besides the several comments we have received on this blog, my mailbox has been flooded by authors and artists wanting to see both graphic stories, and comedic slants (keeping in mind we are a horror magazine) on our pages…  We got the picture…

Submissions will now begin to be accepted for the above entries.  Please note, if you are a graphic artist, we need you, so please don’t hesitate to contact us.

August Issue

The new issue is up! Just a few hours early.  We couldn’t resist.

 

Submissions

Getting back on track now.  Our response times had reached nearly 6 weeks for some stories, which we were not happy with, as I’m sure those writers weren’t as well.  As we’ve said before, we aim to get responses out as soon as possible; we know what it’s like to wait months for an answer.  But the current issue (August 1st) is just about done, and we’re once again hitting that submission pile and have already started sending out reponses.  We should be back to a 2-3 week wait within the next several days.
